Kitchener Kodiaks To Join Wmsl In 2026
Ontario Lacrosse Association Approves Kitchener Kodiaks For Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Competition In 2026
TORONTO, ON – February 5, 2026 – The Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) has approved the Kitchener Kodiaks for competition in Women’s Major Series Lacrosse (WMSL), expanding the league to 12 teams for the upcoming 2026 season.
The approval was granted by the OLA Board of Directors at its meeting on December 6, 2025, following a review of the application submitted and reflects the OLA’s ongoing commitment to supporting structured, sustainable opportunities for women’s box lacrosse across the province. The addition of a Kitchener-Waterloo team strengthens the WMSL as the premier women’s box lacrosse league.
The team will be operated by the Kitchener Minor Lacrosse Association and will compete under the new Kodiaks identity, aligning with the minor association’s branding. With more than four decades of involvement in women’s box lacrosse, the application highlighted strong player-led interest, organizational readiness, and a clearly defined pathway for athletes transitioning from the local minor and U22 programs into senior-level competition. The addition of the Kitchener Kodiaks expands access to senior women’s box lacrosse in a region with a demonstrated history of participation and growth. With the inclusion of Kitchener, the Women’s Major Series Lacrosse league will operate with 12 teams for the upcoming season. The OLA will continue to work with the WMSL and its member clubs as preparations for the season move forward.
