Residential Boundaries
Residential boundaries play an important role in Ontario Lacrosse by supporting competitive balance and keeping the game connected to local communities.
Ontario Lacrosse member clubs are assigned residential boundaries that determine where players are eligible to register for competitive (Rep) lacrosse based on where they live.
These boundaries are aligned with recognized municipal and geographic regions and provide clarity for players and families while ensuring participation is managed fairly and consistently across the province.
Residential Boundaries in Ontario Lacrosse
Eligibility by Program
Local League
Players participating in local house league lacrosse exclusively are able to register with any Ontario Lacrosse club of their choice, regardless of where they live. No release is required.
Rep (Competitive) Lacrosse
Players looking to register for a Rep program must register with their home club, based on where they live.
Player movement outside of a player’s home club is governed through the Ontario Lacrosse release process. All requests must follow the requirements and timelines outlined below.
Player Movement & Release Requests
| Sector | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Men’s Field | February 1 | March 1 |
| Box | March 1 | April 15 |
| Women’s Field | March 1 | May 15 |
| Sixes | — | — |
Players must be registered with their resident club for the current year before submitting a release request.
Players who have not registered with their resident club by the following dates are not eligible for a release:
| Sector | Registration Deadline |
|---|---|
| Men’s Field | February 15 |
| Box | 3rd Sunday in March |
| Women’s Field | 3rd Sunday in March |
| Sixes | 3rd Sunday in September |
If a release request is granted, the release will be to the next closest Ontario Lacrosse club from the player’s residential address. The player will participate with that club moving forward and cannot move to another organization.
Players may submit one release request each season in each sector. Once a decision has been made, additional requests will not be considered.
Ontario Lacrosse clubs are required to follow all policies and procedures related to Rep releases.
